A Sainsbury’s Local convenience store is taking residence at one of Brent Civic Centre’s commercial units facing Olympic Way.

A temporary window-display reads ‘Welcome to Sainsbury’s West Olympic Way Local. Opens 7am, Monday 9th February.

Quintain who are behind the Wembley Park development hinted a year ago that a supermarket chain would occupy one of the Brent Civic commercial units. I speculated that it would be a Wembley Waitrose, although I got it wrong, I’m pleased that it’s not another Tesco’s.

Sainsbury’s convenience store sales are up 16% so there is a big focus for them and their competitors to open more. This comes at a time where local communities are starting to oppose convenience stores flooding our high streets.

Wembley is a transient neighbourhood so there isn’t really an established community as such that would oppose these convenience stores. So it’s no surprise that Wembley Park has 6 Tesco stores in a 3 mile radius.

This will be Sainsbury’s first store in Wembley, the nearest are in Dollis Hill which is 2 stops on the Jubilee Line or in Alperton.

  • Great news and a welcome addition! I would argue with your statement that ‘Wembley is a transient neighbourhood’. I am a Wembley resident and there is a very strong sense of community within my neighbourhood. It’s a great place to live and is becoming increasingly better!
