A major planning application for a landmark 1,300 seat theatre has been made to join the Stadium, Arena and Outlet at Wembley Park, north-west London.
As if this already isn’t a big deal, the first production to debut at Wembley Theatre will be ‘The Hunger Games’, premiering in London.
Where’s it at?
The theatre will be located on what is currently known as the yellow car park just off Olympic Way and opposite the Novotel hotel. The site was once home to the Palace of Industry, a relic from the British Empire Exhibition which is survived today by a lion’s head plinth found on the grassy traffic island off Empire Way.
New experience
The theatre will be bringing a new kind of experience to the UK including a rotating auditorium and panoramic video displays.
From the press release:
Continuing the expansion of its global blockbuster Hunger Games franchise into new businesses, Lionsgate a premier next generation global content leader, is teaming with Dutch media company Imagine Nation and U.S. based Triangular Entertainment to bring The Hunger Games to the stage using innovative and immersive staging techniques, the companies announced today. The Hunger Games theatrical experience will launch in summer 2016 in a brand new purpose-built theater next to Wembley Stadium in London, UK.
The addition of a theatre complements the Wembley Park transformation and is a solution to the lack of local theatre options in north-west London which currently only offers the Tricycle in Kilburn.
