Eminem the First Rapper to Headline Wembley Stadium

Eminem fans rejoice, you will soon have the opportunity to see the “Rap God” at the venue of legends, Wembley Stadium on Friday July 11.

Making history by being the first rapper to headline the famous venue, this will be Marshall Mathers first London show in 13 years.  Although, he is not the first rapper to perform at Wembley Stadium, that accolade goes to Mike Skinner, from The Streets. The Rap / Grime collective from Birmingham were an opening act for Muse on the 16th June 2007.

Eminem was meant to perform at Hyde Park, permitting royal approval. As it stands, Eminem was not found to be fit for the Queen, resulting in no royal approval for his show at Hyde Park.

“We were gonna do Hyde Park” Eminem told BBC’s Zane Lowe, in response to not getting a date at the pristine royal park.

The rapper said “that’s mean, it kinda hurts my feelings” and then joked “I’m going to go hide in Wembley Stadium“. Listen to the BBC Radio 1 snippet at the end of the post. The royal decline was spun into a clever social media campaign which promoted the show at Wembley. “Never mind Hyde Park it’s Eminem @ Wembley Stadium” was posted on the rapper’s Instagram.

With the mention of special guests, will Rihanna be one of them? They have a joint tour together later this year, so I think it’s very likely. Tickets on sale friday 9th may at 9am.
