Wembley market is dead, long live Wembley market.

Wembley Sunday market will be making a comeback this October and on every Sunday excluding event days, just like it use to be.

Details of the comeback include a new location based along Olympic Way, it will be equipped with 250 stalls and also operated by Quintain.

Earlier this year, it was announced that a new market operator were to take over but that plan eventually had fallen through.

The original Wembley market was the biggest Sunday market in the UK with up to 500 stalls and had operated for over 40 years. Quintain have certainly changed their tune after evicting the market almost a year ago. This must feel like a kick in the teeth for Wendyfairs the original operator, to have Quintain raid their tomb and resurrect the Sunday market.

It’s not only Wendyfairs who won’t be coming back to Wembley, Quintain and Brent Council also want to stamp out any tax dodging, illegal counterfeit traders.

Traders who wish to sign up to the Wembley Park Sunday Market have to be ‘Read Deal’ assessed, which is a partnership between local authorities, market operators, traders, industry groups and copyright / trade mark owners.

After the market was gutted from the heart of Wembley, the area hasn’t really felt the same due to the absence of such an important fabric of local life.

Since Wembley Market closed a year ago, Blog on the Block has received 100 comments from displaced market goers. In comparison to the local news sites Kilburn Times, which only received around 14 comments on the same story. Local news network, Get-West London, who are owned by the Trinity Mirror group also played catch-up and started covering Wembley market (always remember where it started first).

We are pleased that the displaced market goers chose Blog on the Block to discuss the legacy of Wembley market and leave behind memories or vent frustrations in the comments.
