Another Road Accident

Yesterday evening, another civilian has been hit by a car on Empire Way.

It’s safe to say that this road is a danger to pedestrians, used daily by locals and visitors to reach bus transport links or to access Lakeside Way and now the Outlet. Empire Way has proved to be not very crossable due to speeding motorists, especially impatient ones who overtake other cars.

A year ago, on the 26th February 2013, Blog on the Block received 5 reports made by residents about the danger of this road, in particular, after a young boy was hit by a food delivery van and sadly passed away.

Opinion from residents about the accident included:

[themify_quote]It was only a matter of time“[/themify_quote] [themify_quote]I strongly recommend Council or who so ever responsible to take some action now rather waiting for another incident to happen.”[/themify_quote] [themify_quote]I want council or who so ever responsible to have at least traffic light on round about or controlled crossing for the families who lives in Quadrant Court and Forum House.“[/themify_quote] [themify_quote]Sadly a life was gone yesterday This junction is a death row.”[/themify_quote] [themify_quote]Road crossing is risky because you don’t know which side of the junction traffic comes from. This is made worse by traffic on lakeside way after the new Hilton opened.“[/themify_quote]

It appears that Brent Council Leader Muhammed Butt and Quintain’s Master Planner Julian Tollast need to think less about ‘Wembley’s Ruins’ and start tackling ‘Wembley’s Roads’.

  • I totally agree that this is a very dangerous spot to cross seeing as I myself nearly got hit by a speeding car who just missed me by an inch! And I could have been in this very same position!!! I wrote to the Brent council for something to be done but their response was not very good asking me to cross at the traffic light infront of Forum House. Ridiculous. Hopefully something will be done now.

  • How about pedestrians being more careful and responsible – stop jaywalking, running in front of cars or walking into the road with headphones on? What’s the point of another lights controlled crossing when no-one bothers to wait for a green light to cross anyway?

  • Could not agree more Rokko. See people blindly sprinting across the road to board buses every day, buses come every 5 minutes hardly seems worth risking your life for. In America, anyone caught attempting to cross here would be given a ticket, the idea of blaming the driver wouldn’t even be considered. There’s a Pelican crossing at Forum House, just use that. And let’s have some sympathy for the poor driver just going about their business who has to live with this for the rest of their lives because of somebody else’s stupidity.

    • So your point is that pedestrians are at fault here, including the the boy who passed away from the accident. Ignoring the collisions and near misses doesn’t really help the situation.

Surely we’ve all been taught the Green Cross Code but the context here is a bit different. Empire way is within an events area.

Should there be signs reminding drivers of this?

Why doesn’t anyone use the crossing at Forum House? It’s hardly used, at all.

  • most of Wembley citizens come from other continents they have no idea how to cross the road they are a danger to themselves and to the motorists who cannot see them when they dodge in and out of moving traffic Brent council is to blame teaching these people road sense has been ignored by Brent council they are irresponsible in their duty and responsible for all accidents on their roads by
not teaching newcomers to this country the correct way to cross the road and not to jay walk
