Velocity 1 in the foyer

Can anybody at LRM explain what right Velocity 1 have to hawk their wares in the foyer today?

I’m sure that were a resident to attempt to do the same they would be reprimanded (and rightly so). So why not Velocity 1? Who gave them access to the building, and on what legal basis?

  • As the rep from Velocity1, I would like to apologise if our presence in the foyer last not caused offensive, this was certainly not the intent. The purpose of us being their last night was to advise all residents in Quadrant Court that for one week Velocity1 would be providing free broadband to all apartments in order to make people aware of the service that is available to them. We tried hard not to harass people and received some very positive feedback from a number of tenants.

  • Hi,

I don’t see what the problem was having Velocity1 in the foyer especially seeing that they are one of the service providers here at QC.

However what would have been better was if the Building/Property Manager had informed everyone that Velocity was going to be here. So maybe better communication is needed such as using the noticeboard etc.

Being a resident and a service provider is not the same and should not be compared. Also QC Resident you may not have liked what was happening but other people probably welcomed the opportunity for the week’s free broadband.

  • Thanks for answering our queries Velocity1 rep, are you based in Dublin?

I have to agree with Jamie, I think it was a good idea to have the V1 team in the lobby. For what it’s worth, as consumers when ISP’s compete with each other we end up getting a better deal, now that some residents have switched to Sky, who knows, we might see more competition?

  • The point I was making was that it is inappropriate to have blatant advertising in a residential space. We are not a business. Of course a resident and a service provider are not the same, and that’s the whole point: they should stick to their appropriate spaces.

As for competition, I welcome it – when and, in this case, where appropriate. But that’s the whole point. Velocity 1 could just have easily left things at putting flyers through letter boxes as a means of communicating their promotion. This would have been better than having an in-your-face banner at the foot of the stairs in the foyer with some guy trying to foist stuff upon you, when you are coming home from work and have not asked for either.

Not quite sure what the point of the comment that ‘you may not have liked it, but others probably welcomed the opportunity’ is (do you mean that, by expressing my views, I was somehow being a ‘bad’ person? :)). In any event, it seems that what is being confused here is the means (in-your-face banners and pushy employees in residential space: which I was complaining about) with the end (advertising a Velocity 1 promotion: which I wasn’t complaining about). As I said above V 1, could have achieved the same result by sticking flyers in letter boxes. In any event, I do agree that, if this had to happen, it would have been better that we were given notice of this in advance by management.
