Stockholm, Sweden — Envac UK Ltd has won the Award for Waste at this year’s Sustain Magazine Awards 2011. The Wembley-based company, which provides the UK’s only underground vacuum waste management system, received the Award after beating four finalists. The Awards celebrated the UK’s pioneers across a diverse range of categories including design, construction and the community.
The Award honoured Envac’s ground-breaking approach to waste management and showcased its work on Forum House, the 4,200 unit residential development at Wembley City. Since Envac installed the underground vacuum waste system carbon emissions generated by waste collection vehicles have reduced by 90 per cent and the recycling rate at the end of 2009 was between 40 and 45 per cent – twice that of the London average.
Julian Gaylor, Envac UK Ltd’s Managing Director, comments: “This is a huge achievement for Envac and the accolade recognises our commitment to delivering a twenty-first century approach to waste management. Moreover, it suggests that UK attitudes to the way in which we handle waste are changing. Envac is proud to be part of the waste management revolution and delighted to have been recognised for its contribution to the industry.”
Envac was judged by a rigorous awards panel which considered the environmental, social and economic benefits the system has generated for Forum House.
Many more high profile UK developments are expected to adopt Envac throughout 2011 in order to meet waste targets and reduce the negative environmental impact associated with traditional waste collection.
